The Islanders defeated the Ottawa Valley Titans 5 - 2 in their opening game at the 2010 Gatineau Kiwansis International Tournament on Wednesday January 6/10. Craig Dougan opened the scoring with an unassisted wrap around goal at 2:31 of the first period. Daniel Muise on a passout from Craig MacLauchlan and J.C. Dawson at 5:36 closed out the scoring in the first period. Harrison Wood on the powerplay at 2:42 of the second with a blast from the point assisted by Jordan McInnis increased the Islanders lead to 3 - 0 before defenseman Brad MacKenzie from Blake Millman scored the Islanders fourth goal of the game at 10:25 of the second. spoiled Stephen Miller's shutout with an unassisted blast from the high slot. The Titans forward Elie Verd at 11:15 opened the scoring in the third before Brandon Weir sealed the victory for the Islanders at 16:59 assisted by Blake Millman. The Islanders outshot the Titans 30 - 28 with Stephen Miller picking up the win with many key saves including stopping a penalty shot in the first period. Drew Lawson was charged with the loss.
