The Fredericton Canadians defeated the Islanders 5 - 3 Friday Night at MacLauchlan Arena and the Islanders defeated the Fredericton Canadians 8 - 7 in a shootout at the Willie O'Ree Place Saturday Night in Fredericton. The Canadians forward Phillip Fife opened the scoring at 18:51 of the first assisted by Nick Jordan and 49 seconds later Craig MacLauchlan from Jordan McInnis and Craig Dougan tied the game at 1 - 1. Each team had 13 shots in the first period. Fredericton had the only two goals of the second period at 1648 by Brett Barnhill from Dylan Desmeules and 14 seconds later Brandon Parsons from Phillip Fife and Anthony Dion. Fredericton outshot the Islanders 15 - 11 in period two. Jeremy Balderston at 2:27 of the third period from Cody Coffin and Max MacDonald cut the lead in half before Brett Barnhill from Brandon Connors at 3:54 restored the two goal lead. Jeremy Balderston at 5:21 cut the lead to one goal again assisted by Max MacDonald. The game remained that way until Dylan Desmeules from Alex Murray and Mathieu Martin scored into an empty net at 19:03. The Islanders outshot the Canadians 15 - 14 in the third and 39 - 37 overall. Zach Daigle earned the win in goal for Fredericton while Ryan Deagle was charged with the loss. In Saturday's game in Fredericton the Islanders struck early when Craig Dougan opened the scoring at the 36 second mark on the first shot of the game assisted by Jordan McInnis and Cleve McNeill. Jeremy Balderston scored at 7:15 from Brandon Gaudet and Ross Johnston before Brandon Gaudet made it 3 - 0 at 9:56 unassisted. The Canadians pulled starting goalie Seamus Bowen who gave up 3 goals on just 5 shots. The Islanders then got themselves into penalty trouble and the Canadians scored on the powerplay at 10:32 Brett Barnhill from Daley and Langille and again on the powerplay at 13:25 Phillip Fife from Barnhill. The Islanders forward Craig Dougan closed out the first period with his second goal of the night at 14:59 from Jordan McInnis and Cleve McNeill. Fredericton outshot the Islanders 15 - 11 in the period. Fredericton picked up their first two penalties at the 20:00 minute mark of the first period and the Islanders Brad MacKenzie scored at 1:10 on the powerplay assisted by Craig MacLauchlan and Jordan McInnis to restore the Islanders 3 goal lead. Paul Comeau scored for Fredericton at 7:56 from Riley Dickie then Craig MacLauchlan unassisted at 10:53 for the Islanders made the score 6 - 3 before Brandon Parsons on the powerplay scored at 1419 from Murray and Nick Jordan. The Islanders continued to take penalties and a great individual effort by Jeremy Balderston shorthanded closed out the wild second period with the Islanders holding a 7 - 4 lead heading into the third period. The Islanders outshot the Canadians 18 - 11 in the period. The Canadians were not about to give up scoring their first of three goals at 4:18 by Paul Comeau from Riley Dickie and Alex Murray and then their 4th powerplay goal of the game at 13:59 by Alex Murray from Craig Langille. The Canadians completed the comeback at 17:51 of the third when Dylan Desmeules got behind the Islanders defense receiving a stretch pass from Craig Langille and beating Islanders keeper Stephen Miller on a breakaway. The Islanders outshot the Canadians 9- 6 in period three and 3 - 1 in overtime. The game went to a shootout before the Islanders 6th shooter Craig MacLauchlan sealed the victory. Harrison Wood and Jordan McInnis also scored in the shootout while Fredericton got shootout goals from Alex Murray and Brett Barnhill. Stephen Miller picked up the win stopping 26 of the 33 shots he faced as well as stopping 4 more in the shootout while Zach Daigle who relieved Seamus Bowen was charged with the loss stopping 32 of the 36 shots he faced as well as 3 more in the shootout.
