The Charlottetown Mark's Work Wearhouse Islanders have won the PEI Major Midget AAA Championship for the 5th time in the past 6 years.
The Islanders defeated the Cornwall Superior Thunder 4 - 2 on Saturday at the APM Centre sweeping the best of 7 series in 4 games.
The teams battled through a scoreless and cautious first period with the Thunder outshooting the Islanders 10 - 3. The second period was a much different story as the Islanders picked up the intensity with Craig MacLauchlan opening the scoring at 5:43 on a defensive turnover by the Thunder assisted by Max MacDonald.. J. C. Dawson made it 2 - 0 on the powerplay at 17:06 assisted by Cody Coffin and Jeremy Balderston. The Islanders outshot the Thunder 20 - 5 in the second period.
The third period was a battle as the Thunder attempted to stave off elimination. Devan Gunn cut the Islanders lead in half at 7:56 assisted by Jonathan Richards and Brandon Carter. Islanders forward Craig Dougan, the game 2 hero in overtime, raced from the players bench following an Islander's penalty picking up a loose puck in the neutral zone and blasting a shot past Thunder keeper Dylan McQuaid at 11:37 with would eventually be the game winner. The Thunder were not ready to give up as Josh Bowman redirected a pass from Stefan LaPierre past goalie Stephen Miller at 17:01 to cut the lead to 3 - 2. The Islanders continued to defend until team Captain Carson Trainor blocked a point shot and Craig MacLauchlan cleared the puck from the zone with Islander's forward Jordan McInnis racing down ice diving to reach the puck and prevent the icing call and J.C. Dawson sealing the victory with his second goal of the game into an empty net at 19:53. Goalie Stephen Miller got the win and the playoff MVP Award stopping 29 of 31 shots while Dylan McQuaid was tagged with the loss stopping 25 of the 29 shots directed his way.
Forward Alex Gallant scored at 9:12 of 3OT to become the latest hero for the Islanders and give them a 3 - 0 lead in the 2010 PEI Major Midget Playoffs. J.C. Dawson opened the scoring for the Islanders at 2:53 of the first period assisted by Cleve McNeill. Evan Carmody tied the game at 15:42 on the powerplay assisted by Isaac Jay. The Islanders outshot the Thunder 12 - 11 in the first. Cody Coffin finished off a 2 on 1 break with Craig MacLauchlan at 16:00 of the second. Carson Trainor started the play in the Islanders end. Craig MacLauchlan from Harrison Wood beat Thunder goalie Chris Gallant at 19:59 when his slapshot off the left wing found the top corner to give the Islanders a 3 - 1 lead heading to the dressing room after two periods. The Islanders outshot the Thunder 8 - 7 in the second. Stephan LaPierre cut the lead to one when his pass from behind the Islanders net at 8:33 went in off Stephen Miller's stick. The Thunder were able to tie the game at 3 - 3 at 18:57 when a point shot by Drew Coulson from Evan Carmody beat a screaned Stephen Miller while the Thunder were shorthanded and goalie Gallant on the bench for the extra attacker. The teams went back and forth during the overtime periods with each team have a chance to win the game. The Islanders outshot the Thunder 10 - 5 in the first overtime while the Thunder outshot the Islanders 11 - 9 in the second overtime. The game finally ended when Alex Gallant pounced on a rebound at 9:12 of the third overtime and put the puck into a wide open net assisted by Cody Coffin and Brad MacKenzie. The Islanders outshot the Thunder 4 - 3 in the third overtime and 50 - 44 overall.
Islanders forward Craig Dougan picked off a clearing pass by a Thunder defenseman at 15:38 of the 2OT and he beat Thunder goalie Chris Gallant to give the Islanders a 2 - 0 lead in the best 4 of 7 series. The Thunder opened the scoring in the first period on a powerplay goal at 3:30 by Logan Smallman assisted by Griffin Gallant and Stefan LaPierre and 41 seconds later Brandon Carter from Adam Wight made it 2 - 0. The Islanders scored twice on the powerplay at 11:20 by Harrison Wood from Brad MacKenzie and Craig Dougan and 24 seconds later Brandon Weir from Brandon Gaudet and Alex Gallant The Thunder outshot the Islanders 12 - 10 in the period. It was all Islanders in the second scoring at 2:08 Craig MacLauchlan unassisted, 8:49 Craig Dougan from Brandon Weir and Brad MacKenzie to end goalie Dylan McQuaid's night. Blake Millman scored at 9:52 on the first shot Chris Gallant faced assisted by Cleve McNeill. The Islanders outshot the Thunder 11 - 10 in the second. The Thunder scored two quick goals to start the third at 3:52 by Evan Carmody from Adam Wight and 26 seconds later by Brandon Carter from Isaac Jay and Devan Gunn. Devan Gunn tied the game at 5 - 5 at 9:14 on the powerplay assisted by Isaac Jay. Cody Coffin gave the Islanders a short lived lead at 16:19 assisted by Cleve McNeill and Evan Carmody tied the game at 17:58
with an end to end rush assisted by Cameron Arsenault. The Thunder outshot the Islanders 18 - 5 in the third. The Teams played a scoreless first overtime period and then at 15:38 of the second overtime Craig Dougan became the hero. The Islanders outshot the Thunder 13 - 10 in overtime. Stephen miller earned the win stopping 44 of 50 shots while Chris Gallant got the loss stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced relieving starter Dylan McQuaid who was beaten 4 times on the 13 shots he faced.

The Islanders forward Craig Dougan opened the scoring at 2:44 of the first period when his wrist shot off the wing beat Cornwall goalie Dylan MaQuaid assisted by Harrison Wood. Brandon Weir made it 2 - 0 on the powerplay at 8:11 when a pass from Jeremy Balderston put Brandon in the clear and he deked McQuaid with Harrison Wood picking up his second assist of the game, The Islanders outshot the Thunder 7 - 6 in the period. Jeremy Balderston of the Islanders had the only goal of the second period at 12:48 pouncing on a rebound and giving the Islanders a 3 - 0 lead. The Islanders outshot the Thunder 15 - 6 in the second period. The: momentum began to change in the third when the Thunder had a 5 on 3 powerplay. The Islanders were able to kill off both penalties but it set the stage for a much different period. The Thunder were finally able to beat Stephen Miller at 10:51 on their 10th shot of the period when an Adam Wight slap shot found the twines assisted by Cameron Arsenault and Josh Bowman. Evan Carmody's wrist shot goal at 17:41 assisted by Adam Wight and Matt Kelly made for a very exciting finish as time an again the Thunder had scoring chances only to be stymied by Miller. The Thunder outshot the Islanders 16 - 5 in the third and 28 - 27 overall.
